BOJ Deputy Gov. Himino in Focus as Markets Seek Clues on Rate Path

0527 GMT - With all eyes on hints about the timing of the Bank of Japan's next interest-rate increase, BOJ watchers will closely monitor Deputy Gov. Ryozo Himino's remarks on Thursday. "While there are limits to how much a single speech by the BOJ deputy governor can manage market expectations, the focus will be on how firm his language is regarding inflation control," says SMBC Nikko Securities strategist Ataru Okumura. While the bond market firmly expects an early rate hike, investors doubt that the central bank can push rates above 2% into restrictive territory, making its future path the key focus, Okumura adds.
