MDA Space shares were set for a strong open Tuesday after Czech arms maker CSG invested in the Canadian company.
In premarket trading, MDA was 3.5% higher at $28.42 on the New York Stock Exchange after a Monday close of $27.45, which marked a gain of just over 40% so far this year. In Toronto it last finished at 40.18 Canadian dollars for a 51% year-to-date climb.
CSG said it bought a 9.5% stake in MDA worth around C$620 million (US$434.1 million).
The investment positions CSG as MDA's largest shareholder and could see the companies co-invest in manufacturing or assembly facilities in Europe, or partner on strategic acquisitions. CSG said it also could help support MDA's international growth ambitions.
The Canadian space-technology company is positioned to benefit from growing military spending by North Atlantic Treaty Organization members and other countries, as well as from surging global demand for space infrastructure across both commercial markets and defense sectors.
